Winter 2025 Read-Aloud
This winter marks one year since I planned the first Inkblot Read-Aloud at BYU-Idaho. What started as a simple idea to unite writers has become a recurring event that fosters creativity, connection, and community. Over the past year, I’ve been fortunate to host these events every semester with the support of an incredible team and the leaders at the Writing Center.
This semester’s Read-Aloud was particularly memorable. We celebrated the latest edition of Inkblot, which received a record-breaking 100 submissions! Students shared their published work aloud, creating an atmosphere that was both inspiring and deeply personal. To ensure the event’s success, I implemented new marketing strategies that proved effective, resulting in one of our best turnouts yet. Seeing so many people come together to support and celebrate storytelling was an incredible reminder of the impact of thoughtful outreach.
The event also highlighted the amazing contributions of the team behind the scenes. Megan Royer worked tirelessly for months designing custom stickers for attendees—her creativity and attention to detail were phenomenal, and I loved collaborating with her throughout the process. Halle Rajaratnam beautifully captured the night through photos, preserving the memories of this special evening. And, of course, none of it would have been possible without the help of so many others who contributed to making the night a success.
I’m also grateful to the Communications and English department professors who encouraged their students to attend, helping us reach a wider audience. Their enthusiasm and support have been vital to the growth of this event.
The Inkblot Read-Aloud has become more than just an event; it’s a celebration of creativity and a testament to the power of storytelling to bring people together. I'm truly proud of being part of something that helps foster connection and uplift voices. Here’s to many more evenings of storytelling and community!
